CINCINNATI, OH --- FC Cincinnati has tabbed Jack Stern to fill the full-time role as the club’s goalkeeper coach and brings first-team and academy experience.
Stern was with the Montreal Impact the last four seasons and began his tenure there as the Head of Academy Goalkeeping. Over the next three seasons, Stern developed a technical and tactical program helped produce first team professional goalkeepers for the Montreal Impact in MLS and USL and goalkeepers that represented the Canadian National Team at both youth and senior level.
His achievements led to an appointment with the first-team where he was brought on as the Head of Goalkeeping and was the senior team’s goalkeeper coach. Responsible for planning and implementing all of the first team goalkeeping sessions, Stern was also involved in video scouting the opposition for both the goalkeepers and field players. He developed goalkeeping profiles and a talent identification model for the assessment and recruitment of goalkeepers across North America and worldwide.
Prior to his stint with Montreal Impact, Stern spent five seasons in the English Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, where he helped to design and implement a technical program that produced England National Team youth goalkeepers for five consecutive years. Stern worked with West Brom first team Goalkeeper Coach Dean Kiely and helped in the development of several goalkeepers who signed contracts throughout the English professional leagues. As the Academy Goalkeeper Coach, Stern helped managed the on and off-field development for all of the club’s goalkeepers ranging from U-8 to the U-21. He used his eye for talent to identify and assess trialists from around the world alongside the club’s recruitment department.
Stern attended the University of Worcester in England where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Coaching Science and spent time as both a coach and a player from 2008 to 2011, helping lead the team to a university championship. His playing experience spans the lower leagues in England and he competed collegiately at the University of South Carolina Upstate in NCAA D1. As a youth, Stern played for the academy of the then Premier League team Wimbledon FC until he was 16 years old and had a two-year stint with Lewes FC in the National League.
Dave Schureck will remain with the club and will assist with club scouting.
