2017 Look Back: Recapping The Year End Club Awards

After yet another fruitful season for FC Cincinnati as a team, the club unveiled it's 2017 individual awards over the course of the last week. A total of six players were identified by the FCC technical staff as deserving of recognition for their contributions on the pitch and off over the course of the club's second season.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER - KENNEY WALKER


The team-leader with seven assists who also contributed a pair of goals, Walker was voted to the USL Team of the Week three times and also grabbed league Player of the Week honors once in his second season with the Orange & Blue.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE YEAR - DANNI KÖNIG & DJIBY


The best offensive player award was shared for the first time in 2017. König and Djiby combined for half of the team’s 43 goals this season, tallying eleven and twelve respectively. Senegalese forward Djiby was selected to the USL Team of the Week four times, including one league Player of the Week honor, and was also was a candidate for TheCup.us lower-division Player of the Year award. To his credit, König also earned one nod to the USL Team of the Week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - HARRISON DELBRIDGE


Anchoring the side with 30 starts, the Australian native led the team with 137 clearances and 120 interceptions and was once voted to the USL Team of the Week, Delbridge was the lone player to start in all six U.S. Open Cup matches in addition to tallying three goals and three assists in the regular season.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER - JIMMY MCLAUGHLIN


Pacing the side with a team-high 32 appearances, a strong second half of the season saw McLaughlin total of five goals and three assists, the latter being good for second on the team.

CINCINNATUS AWARD - PAT MCMAHON


The Cincinnatus Award, named after the Roman leader, is exemplified by the characteristics of leadership, service to the greater good, civic virtue, lack of personal ambition and modesty. McMahon earned the honor thanks to his 23 public appearances this season, including reading to children at the UC Library, participating in the KinderCare Education series and supporting various civic efforts such as the Cheviot Harvest and Opening Day parades.
