FC Cincinnati 2 took a point against Red Bull New York II Sunday night at MSU Soccer Park. The match finished 1-1 before advancing to a penalty shootout where RBNY II won 5-3.
Jack Mize scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal in the 38th minute to give the Orange and Blue a 1-0 lead. Leo Orejarena moved possession out to the left wing, connecting with Ademar Chávez who played a dangerous ball into the box toward Mathias Vazquez. Vazquez was unable to connect on the cross, but Mize was ready for the second chance opportunity and the winger controlled and found the left bottom corner of goal from the penalty spot mark.
New York would equalize in the 81st minute through first half substitute Christian Gallagher. Gallagher’s goal would see the match advance to a penalty shootout. All five RBNY II penalty takers would convert on their attempts while the Orange and Blue had their first attempt saved.
Defender Abdoulaye Ndoye made his MLS NEXT Pro debut after signing with the Orange and Blue on Friday. Ndoye played five minutes in the second half to keep RBNY II from finding a winner.
